May 30, 2036 ‘A day in my surfing life’: TETSUYA MIZUGUCHI
March 18, 2016
Lifestyle in 2036, imagined by creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi, is introduced in seven segments, four from a short story and three from an interview with him. This is the first in a three-part series of the short story. In an age where‘mobiles’(autonomous cruising vehicles) allow for people to move freely and where AR breaks the limits of space. People have a lifestyle full of color and ever-expanding choices for enjoying life.
In the morning, the sound of waves awoke me.
I remembered installing the latest version of an app that provides information on waves before going to bed yesterday.
An organic smart grid of weather drones contribute to remarkable enhancements in the accuracy of observation and this makes possible the real-time prediction of wind and waves.
Setting the mode to ‘on’ for a location with as few people as possible, I reached the seaside.
When I get out of the car, the best sunrise and the best waves welcome me.
Turning on the car-mounted 3DVR cam and sharing information via social media, I quietly enter the sea at dawn.
When the sun has risen a bit, my friends join me after seeing the video from the 3DVR via social media.
9am. The cold pressed juice locally harvested in the morning is delivered by drone.
Wherever I go, I always receive it at the correct time. My wife cooks in the car’s kitchen.
We had breakfast commanding a view of the waves in comfortable offshore winds.
10am. I have to conduct only one class today.
The car-mounted 3DVR cam is connected to the college’s cloud.
Over the cloud there is a link between the students in Tokyo, New York, and London.
Today’s theme is ‘Urban Design - Quantum Approach.’
The three-dimensional data of Tokyo is displayed in the center of all the surrounding attendants who are wearing AR glasses.
The class’s subject is how to apply to urban design the data on hidden desires of people, which is scanned in real-time and quantized.
College classes have changed and now offer an opportunity for experience in addition to knowledge.
Compared to the past, the quality of students has improved remarkably.
1pm. I remotely attended the meeting for the ongoing project.
These days no one reveals any apologetic sense when attending a meeting either from the sea or mountains.
Anytime, anywhere, any style.
Each one joins from the place most comfortable to him or her.
So the meetings always proceed in a good atmosphere.
3pm. An alert forecasting sudden heavy rain for the area is issued.
I instruct the car to go back to Tokyo and to skillfully avoid rain clouds.
The artificial intelligence system for autonomous cruising, Robby-5, calmly performs driving with a gentle voice.
Robby-5 is really dependable.
I watched some interesting news in the car.
It was reported that at last a Japanese construction company had completed a ‘Megafloat’ in the Pacific Ocean that consisted of a group of huge buildings at a height of over 500 meters.
The group of huge connected buildings slowly cruises just below the equatorial line that is free from the effects of typhoons.
Fresh air, at a five-degree lower temperature than the ground level, is continuously taken from the rooftop of buildings and thus serves as a natural and uninterrupted air conditioning for people living there.
The plants arranged on the lower areas of the buildings change the CO2 emitted from people to oxygen, which is released over the sea.
How eco-friendly!
Traveling around tropical islands on a daily basis sounds like a great life.
Is it about time to change my urban life to a life on the sea?
While I was daydreaming about that, the car had already entered the Tokyo Metropolitan Expressway.
While gazing at a group of buildings in the evening glow, the song "Heavenly Star" was recommended.
It is a love song by Lumi, a 17-year-old girl born in the ISS, International Space Station, in 2019 and continues growing up in outer space.
I wonder what her nationality is?
