3D printer usage possibilities expand from prototype manufacture to mass production

In their manufacturing of prototypes, product development personnel were for a long time faced with problems such as prototypes costing too much and taking too long to produce. However, design and development speed has been greatly accelerated by the spread of additive manufacturing (AM) in which 3D printers are used to quickly give form to materials (resin, etc.) on demand. Furthermore, the range of materials that can be handled has greatly expanded (to include nylon, metal, etc.) so 3D printers have now come to be used for not only prototype manufacture but also production of actual products in fields such as automobiles, medical products, and consumer goods.
