<Ricoh Co., Ltd./Japan>
A paper introducing the Ricoh Group's risk assessment system titled "Streamlining the Risk Assessment System in the Wide-Ranging Deployment of ISMS including Non-IT Departments" (lead author: Yasushi Kohari), won a prize at the 49th IBM Users Best Paper Awards organized by the IBM Japan Users Association.
In the IBM Users Best Paper Awards, papers that deal with themes related to information systems are gathered from member companies of the IBM Japan Users Association and the best entries are presented with awards. The 49th Best Paper Awards were given to four of the 127 submitted papers, among which eleven other papers received consolation awards.
The winning paper from the Ricoh Group focused on the system for implementing risk assessment within the Ricoh Group's ISMS activities. The paper described problems encountered under the past risk assessment system and showed how it had been improved to develop into the current risk assessment system.
Lectures on the winning papers were conducted at the 49th IBM Users Symposium held in Kurashiki City on May 19 and 20. On this occasion, Review Committee Chairman Atsushi Yazawa of CASIO COMPUTER CO., LTD. commented on Ricoh's paper: "We were overwhelmed by the scale, which covered 100,000 people. Also, the description of innovation in the tools and mechanisms to circulate the PDCA (plan, do, check, act/review) cycle on a global scale was extremely informative for companies grappling with the task of strengthening their IT governance".
