The international economic community should strive to achieve growth and development while overcoming major global problems. Expectations for companies to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society are growing.
Ricoh Company, Ltd. founded the Ricoh Institute of Sustainability and Business not only to the financial success of the company (''business'') but also to a rich and sustainable society (''sustainability'') through its ''corporate activities.'' We will reflect a new growth model on medium to long-term Ricoh business strategies, finding new ways to solve problems such as global warming and defining the roles of the corporation in today's global marketplace.
Such cycles of research and corporate activities would enhance our competitiveness and result in greater trust from the international community. Furthermore, crucial issues and findings from our research and corporate initiatives will be passed on to society and corporate management for broad application, not simply for our own benefit.
We believe that such initiatives will result in the realization of an affluent and sustainable society.
The international economic community has changed dramatically including the expansion of emerging markets. Nowadays a business manager is required to make decisions in the midst of great uncertainty.
In addition, it is increasingly important to solve various global problems beginning with global warming and issues specific to Japan such as the falling birthrate and aging population in order to bring about a more sustainable society. Companies are increasingly expected to be driving forces behind problem resolutions using their diverse resources and the latest technologies. Since this is truly an era of opportunity and risk, managers today require greater rational capabilities than ever before.
Ricoh Institute of Sustainability and Business aims to carry out such inspiring research into business management, and is tasked with not only providing information but also advising Ricoh Top Management based on its findings.
Study results will be applied to actual corporate activities. These activities will in turn deepen the Institute's knowledge, enabling it to contribute even more deeply to society as a whole. We aspire to becoming a visionary institute which acts as a bridge between research and business.
The Ricoh Institute of Sustainability and Business aims to suggest new ways and directions to corporate management by estimating the movement and signs of structural changes in the marketplace with an eye on global business development.
We will conduct research activities to contribute not only to the progress of the company (''business'') but also to help bring about a rich and sustainable society (''sustainability'') through our ''corporate activities.''
Institute advisory members are tasked with advising Ricoh Top Management and raising issues with them based on research findings.
The Institute conducts practical studies with a view to applying findings to real world corporate management.
The Institute carries out profound research into crucial agendas drawing from knowledge and actual business activities. Moreover, our findings will be proposed broadly to society and corporate management alike.
