Application example of the cellular phone

In some applications, it is necessary that a single power line supplies power to multiple peripheral circuits, a common solution is to use LDOs to distribute power lines. However, LDOs operation causes a dropout voltage and a significant power loss in terms of heat. Additionally LDOs need external capacitors for a stable operation.

A load switch cannot regulate the output voltage, but the dropout voltage is very small because of the low on resistance of the internal transistor. The load switch suppresses power loss, and external capacitors are not necessary. In addition, the Ricoh's load switch can operate in very low voltage conditions.
